The Moomin Cafe in Tokyo, where you never eat alone
Japan presents an unusual solution to having lunch alone: a mega plush Moomin at the table with you.
How many times did you have to eat alone at a restaurant? There you were, eating your meal sad, without the company of anyone. Well, once again the Japanese have the solution – although it is odd indeed- to this problem: the Moomin Bakery and Cafe.
The Moomin Café is a restaurant like all the others, except for one peculiarity: it has found the solution to solo lunch by putting at your table a giant plush Moomin, the famous Japanese anime, to be with you and keep you company. A historic character of a Japanese TV series of the seventies, Moomin is adored by many Japanese, who have found in this solution a good idea.
So, if you find yourself at dinner in the Moomin Cafe, a smiling waitress comes to inform you that someone wants to eat with you, offering you one of the many Moomin characters: there’s Moomintroll, Moominpappa, Moominmamma and Snork Maiden, all ready to sit down with you and enjoy the meal. Characters that are in max plush version but also on every dish, from rice to cappuccino.
This service is not exclusive only in Tokyo, but also at the other Moomin Café in the big mall Solamachi and in the shopping center in Canal City, Fukuoka.
