The 24 year old Pavel Sapozhnikov tries to reproduce the lifestyle of the Russian ancestors in the year 1100 and lives an ascetic life with very little human contact by participating in one of the most extreme sociopsychological experiments in history. The experiment began in September 2013 and will run until May of this year, with Pavel living in a replica of an ancient farm, which lacks all the modern comforts and communication.
I live alone in the past, he wrote. The period of eight months was chosen because it is large enough to allow the end of the experiment, some important conclusions. Also, the winter was the season of choice because of the scarcity of resources and the difficulty of survival in the countryside.
The farm that Pavel lives situated in a secluded forest and is made in accordance with the needs of the 10th century in Russia, according to archaeological findings and ethnographic data. The farm includes a fenced area with a main house, a barn and a separate toilet. Pavel will arrange his food by hunting, he only uses tools and foods of the era revived and communication is prohibited, except one day every month to exchange notes with his team of researchers.
